Creations and technique

The idea behind each stained glass panels arises as a function of the place where it will be installed. It is then developed into a coloured sketch.

Once the sketch has been approved by the client, the production phase begins: a life-size cartoon is made and the colour of each piece of the glass panel is chosen from hundreds of samples. Most of the glass we use is either blown, poured or pulled and coloured while still in paste form. It is all hand made.

The The three principal techniques used are:

  1. traditional leaded glass this ancient process, the oldest of the three, uses gestures and materials that have been passed down from generation to generation for thousands of years.

  2. glass mosaic this process entails grinding the various pieces of coloured glass and gluing them onto a pane of industrial glass. The latter serves as structural backing for the entire work. Pieces are sometimes made of fused glass.

  3. sanding and etching a special machine uses pressurised sand to etch the glass surface to varying depths.

Some projects require a combination of these techniques. The entire process is carried out by hand on the basis of the original custom-made drawing in a workshop equipped with hundreds of kinds of glass and colours. VetroCreare has completed more than 2000 projects in Italy and abroad.

Artistic stained glass panels are a precious resource in interior design projects when the objective is to capture the light, reflect it from one space to another, or refract it, filter it and colour it in endless ways. Its applications are endless: windows; hinged, sliding or pocket doors; room dividers; dropped ceilings; transoms and lightwells; banisters and railings; mirrors and backlit panes… The fascination surrounding VetroCreare’s stained glass panels is a product of their skilful combination of experience, tradition and technological innovation.
